Magazine advertising from
years past is one of the most exciting reference sources for attributing and
dating vintage jewelry. These wonderful old ads illustrate how jewelry was worn, when it
was made, and how it coordinated with the styles of the time.

the sister of Betty Hutton the actress. Notice her back ornament,
"1941" in rhinestones!

1938 by Cartier. Emeralds and diamonds.

Greta Garbo 1937
Borrowed to be worn in a movie, this jewelry was given
to the Empress Marie Louise in 1811 by Napoleon according to the
description with the picture.

Claudette Colbert 1937 as a Russian Grand Duchess in "Tovaritch". Bobye
says, "My dad admired Claudette and had this framed picture on his
dresser. I have no memory what my mother thought of the idea!"
