VICTORIAN antique 18 karat and turquoise ring with a diamond center

Price: $368.00
Description VICTORIAN antique 18 karat and turquoise ring with a diamond center and 7 turquoises.  This is made in the forget-me-not shape to signify remembrance and eternal love.  It is marked inside the band "750" for 18 karat gold, size 4-1/8 and 5/16" wide on the top, ad the total weight is .10 ounces.  The last photo shows other examples of these wonderful rings, shown here just for fun.

Turquoise like this is often called Persian turquoise as a generic term, whether from Persia or not.  Persian turquoise is a beautiful blue color with no matrix at all and it was originally mined in Persia and then brought to Europe.  In New Mexico, the Cerrillos mines just south of Santa Fe were also found to have a similar type of turquoise.  The story is that this turquoise was used by the Tiffany company in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and it may have even been the source of the lovely aqua color in their advertising.

The turquoise used in Victorian jewelry has an interesting history, and to read more about it, click HERE.
