ANTIQUE early Victorian 1800s cut steel sewing chatelaine that is over 200 years oldThe tools include the 1-1/2" by 1-1/3" pin cushion with 2 hand-made pins in it; a 2-1/2" pencil with the slide missing; a 1-3/4" safety whistle; 1-5/8" wax holder with wax; and 1-1/8" glove hook/corkscrew for getting corks out of perfume bottles; a 7/8" ball style measuring tape that winds in and out as it should; and a notebook with 2" by 1-1/3" pages. The round cut steel brads have 10-15 facets. Cut steel chatelaines are unusual, and some can be seen in Clifford's "Cut-Steel & Berlin Iron Work Jewellery" on page 17, picture plate 4. It is interesting to see how housewives carried their tools with them so many years ago before women's clothing was made with pockets.
