Flower Motif Jewelry

Step through the rose
arch, push open the gate, stroll down the rose alley and feel warmly
welcomed to a garden of flowers…. in jewelry!
Flowers, leaves, bouquets, and baskets are all wonderful when
fashioned out of rhinestones and metals. I have a weakness for enameled
jewelry in particular. It started for me with my grandmother’s late Victorian
and early Edwardian tiny translucent floral pins and lavalieres and
moves through the wonderful 1940s DeRosa enamels and up to the glossy
Swarovski jewelry of the 1990s.

DUJAY
unsigned flower and leaves brooch with rich purple glass beads
center, clear rhinestone accents and translucent green enameled leaves, just
fabulous. It is a large 4-1/2" by2-1/2" brooch with a gilt finish, circa
1940. It was a real surprise to me when most of the original enamel
disappeared under the lights in my display case, so I had it professionally
restored in 2020. A few of the clear stones have grayed over time, and there is very
light wear to some of the finish, but it is otherwise in excellent
vintage condition, a true treasure. While it is not signed, I believe it is by DuJay
from the design and because it has the pin stem that opens only 45 degrees, typical of that maker.
Also typical is how the pin is fastened to a little round plate and then
to the brooch itself.

FLOWER
bouquet brooch with sparkling pastel crystals in each of the petals
in pink, lavender and clear with clear rhinestones along the edges and denoting the
veins on the leaves. It is the shape of a lily with three blossoms coming

large size at 4-1/8" by 2-1/3". I enjoy unusual jewelry and this
definitely falls into that category!

FLOWER

bit on the bolt that holds it from the back. The rhinestones are red, purple,
pink, blue and green and they are in gold plated settings with leaves
underneath, 2-3/4" by 2". The setting shows some wear upon close examination,
and the pierced leaves support the flower bouquet beautifully. I have seen a brooch
with flowers made like this and the seller attributed it to Barclay, but there
was no proof at all of that attribution. I do enjoy unusual jewelry, both signed
and unsigned.
