VICTORIAN Arthur & Bond
(Yokohama, Japan, Meiji period 1868-1912) sterling tested Art Nouveau chatelaine
for the colonial market. Intricately built panels depict iris, foliage and
waves, each swivel suspends an articulated sterling charm of Asian motif, some
with hidden compartments. Hooks for 19 charms, 8-1/2" long by 4" at the widest.
Arthur & Bond were English retailers who had a location in Yokohama, and may
have also manufactured some of their pieces. They sold mostly to expatriates and
travelers. Marked on
the back "Arthur & Bond" and a few charms are marked "sterling".

PEACOCK EYE
parure set in textured silver with colorful glass
peacock eye cabochons and dangly earrings with clip backs. It is not often
you find an entire matching group like this one. Peacock eyes are made of
crystal or glass over a silver foil, and according to Ginger Moro, some were
made in Gablonz, Bohemia (Germany). The necklace is 17-1/2" and each leaf is
1-3/4"; the bracelet is 7" by 1"; the smaller earrings are 1" long, and the
dangling clip back earrings 2-5/8" top to bottom. It has the older tube
style closure on the necklace and it is all in excellent condition. I am not
an expert on this style, but I think it is from the Amsterdam School of
design and circa 1930s.

Louis Armand Rault
French sterling buttons in their original box, hallmarked Birmingham 1908,
set of 6 each 1". These are hallmarked for Rault and the date 1908 on each
button as shown on one of the photos, and each button and ring fits into the
custom made box. The little rings fit on the opposite side of the fabric and
allow the buttons to be used and then removed for cleaning. What a great
find and an example of what a classically beautiful woman looked like in
that era.
