FEATURE:VICTORIAN BOXED SETS

Since the Victorian era stretched over six decades, many types of jewelry came and went in style. Mass production made jewelry available to the widest number of buyers in the broadest range of designs ever seen before in history. When it came to formal occasions, the "more is better" theme of the Victorian era carried over into how jewelry was worn by royalty and the aristocracy. Paintings of Queen Victoria and other royals at state occasions show multiple brooches, swags, earrings, bracelets and hair ornaments. But the jewelry of the everyday folk is just as collectible and fascinating. It is a lesson in history that enchants us even today.

An original fitted box makes a wonderful piece of jewelry even more collectible, and the Victorian boxes are getting harder and harder to find. Often shaped in a whimsical form, these old boxes were fitted inside for a particular piece. Turtle-shaped, made to open into a display stand or center-opening, they are all lined in fabric and fashioned with an eye toward showing off the treasures they held. They are also collectible category in their own right.

I delight in seeing how many shapes and styles of boxes that I can find. Although many of them were built especially for a particular set of jewelry they display, some were mass produced.

We have some boxed sets in the shop right now, and you can buy one for yourself or as a gift HERE.

FEATURE: VINTAGE BOXES

Collecting different sizes and styles of boxes is one of my secret pleasures. I like wooden ones, glass ones and sterling ones and I use them for just about everything. Another version of that is the miniature chest of drawers style, like salesmens samples and child-sized pieces.

My phone in the kitchen sits atop a doll dresser with small drawers for pads and pens. My office is full of them, and they hold loose rhinestones, jewelry findings and labels in a fun and organized way. And in the dressing room, they keep smaller toiletries organized and make nice stands for our sea shell collection.

I would love to share them with you, and we have many kinds for sale. You can see the ones for sale by clicking HERE.
