Mariquita Masterson started her jewelry line in Houston Texas in 1984, where it is still made today. Her jewelry is set in sterling silver, and each piece is hand cut and set with Pate de Verre, slumped or dripped glass so that no two are exactly alike. She often uses recycled bottles, which are melted and made into this wonderful collectible and very wearable jewelry. The colors can sometimes be recognized, such as the Cola green. Also included in her jewelry are interesting items like white shells she collected on the beach.

We are also fortunate to have a few figurals, rare in her line, and they were a limited edition made by her son Charlie in 2008.

Hobe et Cie was founded in Paris in 1887 by Jacques Hobe. His concept was to use fine jewelry techniques and non-precious materials to create jewelry for the middle class as well as for the wealthy.  Brought to America in 1915 by his son William, Hobe jewelry was popular not only with everyday customers, but also with the Hollywood stars and such luminaries as Flo Ziegfield.  Inspired by period jewelry of the past, earlier Hobe jewelry also had an historic flavor.

The name HOBE is synonymous with quality, especially in their earlier pieces. Although they made buckles and accessories in the late 1800s, then moved into costume jewelry. Their costume jewelry from the 1930s to 1950s are my personal favorites. Their wire-worked designs and fabulous stones create a unique old-world style. When they combine objects into their jewelry, they take creativity to a new high. The purse frames, done in conjunction with Josef, makers of fine purses, are true works of art.

Unlike many other famous makers, good older Hobe jewelry is getting more and more difficult to find. These wonderful pieces have pride of place in my personal collection, and I love to share my delight in them with other collectors as well.
