FEATURE: GARNETS

Garnets have always been a favorite of mine for years, ever since my husband gave me a wonderful garnet and diamond ring for Valentines Day long ago. The rich deep red color is hypnotizing, looking a bit like pomegranate seeds, and whether Victorian era or mid-century modern, garnets look wonderful in both yellow and white gold. They have been used for thousands of years and by the way, if you havent seen the "Anglo-Saxon Hoard" click HERE because it shouldnt be missed.

Garnets are supposed to aid in health and healing and protection from evil. Garnets, worn close to the body, are energizing and give courage to the wearer. Garnets symbolize fire, and are the birth stone of January. Bohemian Garnets are  from the mountains of Bohemia in the Czech Republic, and they are often rose cut, giving wonderful reflective qualities.

To see garnets in both fine and costume jewelry, see our selection at Morning Glory Jewelry.

GIFTS

This month we are thinking, like many many others, of the holiday gifts we love to give to those who have a great meaning in our lives. What better gift than one from the heart, with not only beauty but history as well?

Engraved jewelry shares its history and we particularly enjoy and collect it here. The very special items we have at the moment include a Georgian 14 karat blue enamel hair ring engraved "WC ob 5 Sept 1790 at 74";  a Victorian doctors tortoise shell calling card case and card with mother-of-pearl inlay dated "M. E. Smith, 10th Feby, 1879";  a 1915 signet locket ring engraved for the "5th Scottish Rifles";  and a VICTORIAN 1867 memorial set, 15 carat gold, diamonds  and banded agate pendant, brooch and earrings engraved "In Memory of E. Johnson, Obt 24 June 1867.

Over 200 years of history documented in jewelry... how special is that!

FEATURE: CHRISTMAS JEWELRY

Wonderful, cheerful, colorful CHRISTMAS JEWELRY! What could be more fun for the holidays, for holiday gift giving and to generate the holiday spirit? Starting over 60 years ago, makers have created holiday jewelry in all designs and sizes. Even the Victorians inscribed holiday gifts with the date and sentiments of Christmas.

While we often associate red and green with holiday decor, many colors have been used in this fun jewelry. Each designer has a different look and each made things to enjoy for years and years, which is why there are so many Christmas tree pin collectors these days.  To see a GALLERY of HOLIDAY JEWELRY, click HERE.
