VICTORIAN Whitby jet Tyrolean boy brooch circa 1860

Price: $238.00
Description VICTORIAN Whitby jet Tyrolean boy brooch with a hand carved rim around the portrait, 2" by 1-3/4".  These painted plaques were often made in Austria and sent to Whitby, England, to be mounted in a hand carved jet setting.

They were called a "young Tyrolean boy", but are also called the "gypsy boy" or "green boy".  Circa 1860, it's a lovely piece of antique jewelry.

This bracelet was featured in "Antiques & Collecting Magazine" page 50, October 2008 in an article about Victorian jet jewellery called Black Magic by Anna Marie Roos, PhD.
