NATIVE AMERICAN Navajo belt buckle in turquoise and sterling silver with a flared wings design
Price: $598.00
DescriptionNATIVE AMERICAN Navajo belt buckle in turquoise and sterling silver with a flared wings design, a sand cast belt buckle with six round turquoises. It is 4" by 3", and weighs 2.96 ounces and it was made between 1930 and 1950. I am told that the high, smooth bezels are somewhat of an earlier trait, so they support this date. Note on the back that it is fitted for a slimmer leather belt. The center opening is 1-1/3" by 7/8".
I have read that the Native Americans learned the sand cast process, in which molten silver was poured into a sand stone cast or mold, from the Spanish and Mexicans around 1870.
All items in excellent vintage condition unless otherwise noted.
