HASKELL Hess five-piece jewelry parure & original advertising artHASKELL Hess five-piece jewelry parure with the original advertising art work illustrating it and done by Larry Austin. The set was created with aqua swirl glass bead clusters set in gold tone caps and chains. The necklace is 16" long with a 3-1/4" front drop; the bracelet is 7" long with 2" drops or charms; the fur clip is about 4" long; the wide brooch is 3-1/4" wide; and the two smaller clips are about 2-1/3" each.
In the early days of Miriam Haskell jewelry, when Frank Hess was the head designer, Haskell put no identifying marks on their jewelry. As a mater of fact, it was not signed at all until about 1947. Today the early unsigned pieces are recognized from the vintage art work and advertisements and by their wonderful design, hand work and detail. This group is circa 1930-40. Pieces of this group can be seen in the book "Miriam Haskell Jewelry" by Gordon & Pamfiloff, pages 97 and 160.
According to Larry Vrba, head designer for Haskell from 1970-78, these wonderful irregularly shaped glass beads were imported from China and Haskell used them by the thousands, great favorites of their time. This original Larry Austin design art work included with this set illustrates an early unsigned Frank Hess for Miriam Haskell two piece set of necklace and dress clip in lovely aqua glass beads with gold tone leaves and findings.
Note too her stylish dress, lovely hat and star studded veil, and the fur wrap she carries. The art work would have been sent to boutiques and shops that sold Miriam Haskell Jewelry to advertise a new collection.
It is numbered on the back with the number 1203A (although no one is certain just what the numbers indicate) and it is 8" by 10" in size. View View View View View View View View View View View 34992 Product #H34992
