Description ART NOUVEAU bronze figure of Flora, the flower maiden, standing in a flowing gown with gracefully draped folds.  She is flanked by blooming lilies, their stems and blossoms framing the figure in the wonderfully organic style so characteristic of the Art Nouveau period.  Mounted on a polished green marble base, the sculpture has a quiet elegance and fluid movement that make it a beautiful decorative work from this beloved artistic era.  It stands 8-3/4" high and was probably made about 1900, if not a little earlier.  Excellent condition.

The design is similar to the work of French sculptor Julien Causse, who lived from 1869-1914.  I had a 1902 Becken Catalogue, showing the busts and library statuary that was so popular at that time.  It is included here simply to provide historical context and is not part of of this offering.  The last photo shows the relatives sizes of these pieces.    View  View
