This ring and brooch were given to Eliza Gray by Alexander K(elly) McClure (b.1828, d.1910), her husband in 1876. The jewelry is engraved on both pieces, and there is an enclosed family note to that effect as well.

According to the 1860 census, they lived in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. McClure was a politician and writer, and was a supporter and biographer of Abraham Lincoln in the 1860 Presidential election. He owned a newspaper and was a prolific political writer.

18k ROSE GOLD band with gypsy set diamond, engraved inside "AJK" for Agnes Jeanette King, circa 1910.   View   View    #Gajk

This is my maternal grandmother, Agnes Jeanette King Negley. I knew her only from family stories... she was born in Kentucky in the late Victorian era in 1891 and died in 1930 when my own Mother was only eight years old. Her box of Victorian and Edwardian jewelry was passed on to me and enchanted me completely and permanently with jewelry. Notice the wonderful lavaliere she is wearing. Her lavalieres and ring are shown here. As a young girl, she received the tiny gold ring with a gypsy set diamond (shown at left). It is engraved on the inside with her initials "AJK" and I have worn it most of my life.

LAVALIERE of 10k yellow gold pendant set with 2mm round pearls, one fresh water round pearl and one 3.5mm square cut  ruby.   #Q22924

CAMEO in 14 karat twist setting. The cameo has an anchor motif at her shoulder and a star in her hair, circa 1910. My Grandfather bought it for Grandmother Agnes when he was stationed in Italy during WWI.    #Uagnes2

Agnes Jeanette King Negley , my maternal grandmother, was born in Kentucky in the late Victorian era in 1891 and died in 1930 when my own Mother was only eight years old. Her box of Victorian and Edwardian jewelry was passed on to me and enchanted me completely and permanently with jewelry. Her husband Dr. William Bennett Negley, my grandfather, was a soldier and doctor in WWI, and brought back two lovely cameos from his time in Italy.
