JEWELRY ADVERTISING

Eisenberg
One of the most exciting reference sources for attributing and dating vintage jewelry is the advertising in magazines from years past. These wonderful old ads illustrate how jewelry was worn, when it was made, and how it coordinated with the styles of the time.

Brenda Nurenberg has a gorgeous Eisenberg Fur clip, shown above, that she later found a picture of in a 1937 Harper's Bazaar Magazine....

...However, in the magazine, the fur clip is done in precious diamonds, sapphires and a huge aquamarine.  It was designed by Black Frost Star and Gorham.
This is a perfect example of how costume jewelry emulated fine jewelry.

It is interesting that earrings incredibly similar to the ones shown at the right are illustrated in this Schiaparelli ad from 1937.  This ad shows jewelry designs by Jean Schlumberger.

EISENBERG "Topaz Quartz" 1944
Vogue Magazine
Only once did the Eisenberg do any 14 karat jewelry.  The ad above shows a bow pin, earrings and a ring. The pin is vermeil but the ring and earrings are 14kt. There were several ring designs with the stones listed as "Brazilian Topaz
Quartz".

EISENBERG STERLING bow pin. The single center stone was called a "topaz quartz" by the company.  These bows are numbered on the back.
