The shape of the HEART
denotes the center of both the spiritual and physical being, and in
early days was thought to be the seat of mental abilities as well. In the western
world it symbolizes love, charity, and passion. It is drawn in a
stylized version, not the actual shape of the human heart, and is often
colored red. Associated with
Valentine's Day, it is a gift of love in the form of jewelry. Heart
motif jewelry is a classic, found in almost every jewelry catalogue no
matter what the date. The material from which it is made may change with
fashions of the era, but the motif itself remains the same as you can
see in these examples.

VRBA hearts necklace and

and seed beads and silvered plastic hearts complete this ensemble, 17-18"
with 3" front drop and 2-3/4" earrings. Large red rhinestones are mounted on
gold tone filigree hearts, joined to create the necklace. Each red heart is
surrounded by faceted glass red beads. From these dangle the silvery hearts
which, while they look like glass, are plastic making the necklace lighter
and more comfortable to wear.
