Haskell Hess red bead & cord bracelet & clips, 1935
HASKELL Frank Hess early unsigned red woven fabric and red glass bead bracelet and two sets of dress clips, circa 1935. The fabric portion has faded over the years to this lovely soft rose color.
The bracelet uses the bead balls as fasteners which slip through the cord loops just like buttons. The bracelet is 6" around the inside when fastened, 3-1/2" across the front and 1-1/4" wide band; dangling clips 2-3/4"; small clips 1-1/4".
In the early days of Miriam Haskell jewelry, when Frank Hess was the head designer, Haskell put no identifying marks on their jewelry. As a mater of fact, it was not marked at all until about 1947. Today the early unsigned pieces are recognized from vintage advertisements and by their wonderful detail, hand work and design. A Larry Austin ad art work showing a similar line of piece can be seen in "Miriam Haskell Jewelry" book by Gordon & Pamfiloff, page 103.
